At Home Interface Designer/Front End Developer

Naviance is a leading provider of web-based software for middle and high schools across the country. Our tools help schools manage and improve the process of academic advising, career exploration and college admissions for all students. Our company thrives on product innovation and this is a great opportunity to make a significant contribution to an enterprise software platform that is interesting to design and that makes a difference in people’s lives.

This position will be responsible for visual design, interaction design and the front-end coding for all our projects. Projects span a wide range of functionality including reporting, portals, charting, mapping, analytics, workflow tools, search, surveys, rules engines, social networking, etc. In this position, you would split your time between designing and developing major components of new functionality from scratch and re-designing/improving existing functionality.

Desired skills:

expert in html/xhtml/css (you can implement anything you design)

knowledge of JavaScript and experience with frameworks (we use JQuery)

usability and information architecture skills

good design sensibilities (your work is both functional and aesthetically attractive)

Ideally you have experience building web-based products that help people accomplish tasks and/or analyze information. If you’re strength is creating tools to help people get real work done, you will be at home here.

We use Apache, PHP 5, Linux and MySQL 5.0. Experience with PHP is desirable but not required. We use macs to develop and developers are free to choose their own tools.

Our office is in an attractive and lively central location in downtown DC close to several different metro lines and we subsidize metro access. Dress is casual. Salary is $80K to $100K+ depending on experience and skills. Opportunities for career growth. Benefits include 401K with match, insurance and four weeks vacation. Telecommute within 3 time zone hours or less is a possibility for the right candidate and we also have offices in Fairfax, VA, Oakland, CA and Cincinnati, OH.
