Offsite Part-Time SQL Server/DBA Expert

We are a small but very successful software firm that seeks a truly unique MS SQL Server DBA/Developer for a part-time position.

Here are some of the features of the position:

* This is a part-time, hourly position

* We need someone who is EXTREMELY responsive to our requests, making changes within 24 hours of our requests.

* The company has offices on 42nd Street and 5th Avenue in New York City, and you are welcome to work there, but this position can be performed through telecommuting. We do not care where you are geographically.

* Some of the work can be performed off-hours, although you will need to be accessible by phone and e-mail during normal working hours as well. This is NOT the right position for someone with a full-time office job who cannot take or make phone calls during the day.

*Knowledge of financial services is not necessary, but the ideal candidate will be able to familiarize themselves quickly with the industry.

Required skill sets are as follow:

* Proven experience in SQL database technologies in a Java and Microsoft VBA development environment. Must be highly skilled in a Java multi tier platform on Apache Tomcat, Java Applets, Java Swing, Java Servlets with the support and enhancement of real-time web applications; expert understanding of the use and development of VBA and stored procedures, XML and XSL. Minimum BA in Computer Science or related. Min 5 years in a business IT development environment with Microsoft VBA and Java custom applications.

* We seek an individual with solid engineering skills who follows Java and object-oriented standards (such as write-once), has a sensible solution choices, with an eye for the needs of easy maintenance (other engineers must be able to understand it) and ease for future code changes.

Here is a description of the work to be performed:

*Ensure the ongoing operational functionality and efficiency of our databases and the applications that access those databases.

*Install and deploy databases

*Create backup plans

*Test disaster recovery scenarios

*Manage security

*Size out machines

*Performance tuning and monitoring

*Data modeling

*Create DTS packages

*Evaluate and implement query and reporting tools

*Establish policies and procedures to ensure efficient ad hoc queries

*Create installation scripts and upgrades

*Create scripts for loading of test data and running application tests

*Control builds, provide build processes for application development and testing.

*Develop a deep understanding of the applications that use the database and propose database improvements

*Perform code reviews and propose improvements, contribute to organizational knowledge of database coding best practices.

*Work closely with Java engineers and product managers to design and develop new application features.

*Provide documentation for all of the above
