Virtual Associate Underwriter

Under general supervision, underwrites large, complex cases for new and renewal business, add-ons to existing clients, contract revisions, and other policyowner service work having a high level of risk and significant financial impact to the company.

Reviews and/or approves the work of lower level Underwriters. Helps train lower level Underwriters.

Accountabilities include: Analyzes data related to the risk being underwritten for large, complex cases, in order to determine what benefits, if any, can be offered and at what rates.

Conducts research in order to secure additional data needed to make determinations on benefits and rates.

Communicates with policy owners, applicants, brokers, agencies, and/or other sources concerning underwriting decisions and procedures.

Provide guidance and expertise to help guide the lower level Underwriters.

Compensation for this position will be commensurate with experience.

NOTE: Telecommuting may be available based on candidate need.

Qualifications 8 or more years experience in impaired risk underwriting is required for this position.

Ability to make decisions and justify the decisions with sound and logical reasoning. Proficient computer skills using various software packages including word-processing, and PC/image experience is required. Attention to detail. Creative problem-solving skills.

Strong relationship building with people who are, or may some day be, useful in achieving work related goals. Familiarity with a variety of Underwriting concepts, practices, and procedures and the ability to creatively apply them. Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Financial aptitude for understanding pricing strategies and their potential impact on financial results.
