Telecommute Transcriptionists
At Transcend, we offer both Full Employment and Independent Contractor status for Medical Language Specialists. All MLS professionals work out of their homes and can choose to work on a full- or part-time basis. Please note that we require at least 8 hours on either Saturday or Sunday for all of our positions (part-time, full-time, and IC), and we require a minimum of 20 hours/week for part-time status. We support our employees' and ICs' home-based offices by providing 24/7 technical and administrative support and quick problem resolution for our software. We have the following computer requirements:
MLS Equipment Requirements:
Pentium (4) 2.8 GHz or equivalent
Microsoft XP (Home or Professional Version) with at least Service Pack 1 OR
The New Microsoft Vista Operating System will now work with our proprietary platform
512 MB of RAM or better
5 GB of free disk space or better
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 or newer
Speakers
Monitor
Mouse
Keyboard
Sound card
MUST have MS Word (Version 2000 or later. The new 2007 version will now work with our proprietary platform.)
USB foot pedal or other appropriate foot pedal for platform (This alone can be provided by Transcend Services for employees.)
Software:
Windows XP Pro Service Pack 1 or newer OR Windows Vista Operating System
Norton Antivirus
One of the following:
Microsoft Works Suite 2006
Microsoft Office 2000, 2003 or 2004 or higher
Microsoft Office XP

Stedman's Spellchecker 2004 (Transcend will provide if necessary for employees)
Optional Expander Programs (one of the below are recommended):
Short Cuts for Windows v6.1.6 (Transcend will provide this if necessary for employees)

Other things to look out for:
You must have local user administrative rights on your PC. (If you are using another company’s PC to work for Transcend, you may or may not have this.)
You must have knowledge of your firewall situation in your home.
Your Internet Explorer should not be set up to filter SSL traffic or block ActiveX controls.
General requirements for this position are:
A minimum of two years of current full-time work experience in acute-care transcription with a strong background in operative notes, or two years' work experience in radiology, oncology, clinic, or cardiology transcription. In addition, we occasionally have entry-level positions available; please see our Job Board below for more information or to apply.
Candidates MUST have recent, full-time experience working with multiple dictators in a large acute care setting (100 or more dictators)
Candidates MUST be willing to work at least 1 weekend day. Preferred schedules are either Tu-Sat or Sun-Th.
Experience with ESL (English-as-a-Second-Language) dictators is required.
