Overview:
Linden Lab is looking for exceptional engineers to build and support the tools and systems that hold up the world that is Second Life. We want you if you respond to problems by crafting stable, scalable tools. You will join our worldwide Production Grid Operations team, which provides 24x7 monitoring, diagnosis, solving, and triage of issues related to the Second Life grid. You will earn the respect and admiration of our millions of registered residents for your contributions to the stability of the Second Life platform, and be an integral part of an awesome team dedicated to the continuous progression and improvements of virtual worlds. This is virtual/work from home working opportunity.
Responsibilities:
* Design, develop and deploy high-quality tools for the monitoring, provisioning, and repairing of Second Life grid
* Provide real-time response to grid attacks, system outages, and other issues raised by monitoring and in-world teams
* Work on both the command-line and in-world to investigate and solve issues
* Communicate with engineering and support teams to escalate issues and provide updates to the Second Life community
* Spend part of your time on shifts, keeping Second Life happy, and part of your time working projects with Engineering teams to improve tools and system
Requirements:
* 2+ years of Linux System Administration experience
* Stellar communication skills, both written and verbal - we are a distributed group, and communication is vital
* Some scripting ability, in at least one language - we love python, but bash or perl are also perfectly acceptable
* We are looking for a range of skill levels, from intermediate to very senior - we can challenge absolutely anyone
Bonus:
* Large-scale system administration, SQL/DBA, Web development, and Network engineering experience
* Toolsmithing and systems programming/debugging
* Plenty of time in SL is a plus
