Virtual PHP Programmer
Extrabux.com is looking for a skilled PHP programmer to be a part of a young, energetic, entrepreneurial startup company. You will have a lot of development freedom and will be involved in a wide variety of different projects. The right person will play a vital role in the future growth of this company. The starting salary for this position is $70-90k with the potential for equity.
Extrabux is about to launch the first comparison shopping engine to use a cost-per-sale based business model to offer consumers coupons and cash back, thus finding THE lowest possible price for a given product. Extrabux was awarded the Best Business Plan at the 2008 University of Southern California Business Plan Competition. Since graduating from USC in May 2008, Extrabux’s founders have raised funds to finance the growth of this company.
Necessary Skills:
-Object-oriented programming
-Strong communication skills!
-Comfortable leading projects
-Enjoys problem solving
-Able to contribute ideas to projects
-Interest in learning and growing skills
-PHP master
-Languages: PHP, HTML, SQL, XML, JavaScript
Optional Skills (in order of importance):
-Familiarity with the Unix server environment
-Experience with Smarty (PHP framework)
-Experience with MySQL
-Experience with Apache Admin
-Experience with memcached
-Entrepreneurial
-Basic understanding of online marketing
-Design skills (would be cool, but not necessary)
This position will require about 50% hands on programming, 20% building systems for outsourced programmers to complete, 20% managing those outsourced programmers, and 10% strategy. Below are some examples of projects that you will be working on:
- Design systems to better track and analyze user activity on the site. i.e. Be able to see what stores and products each of our users has viewed. So we should be able to see that user 9748 viewed Buy.com at 7:18am on 11/20/08.
-After searching for a product, the user should be able to refine the results by product category and price range.
-Build landing pages for Ad Campaigns
-Help with targeting email marketing (send out emails to people that have been inactive for a while, who are interested in certain stores, etc.)
-Customize each user’s shopping experience. For example, “Customers like you viewed the following products”
-Work with Extrabux’s PPC and SEO firm and make any necessary changes that they request.
-Basic technical troubleshooting
Our examples above are just some of the things we will be working on; however, we hope to work with you to begin to design and build many more unique technologies for the future.
