Freelance PHP Engineer/Web Developer

CoreCodec is a leading producer of multimedia software for Cell Phones, PDAs, GPS, and other devices. We are growing, and looking for a PHP engineer to grow with us.

We need someone who can work in a fast-paced, laid back company - most employees telecommute. Work naked if you want, we don't care*. We offer competitive compensation and some of the most flexible hours in the industry.

Qualified candidates need several years real-world programming experience, at least 2 of which involve PHP. You must have a reasonable understanding of modern databases - you need to know what database normalization, foreign key constraints, triggers, and stored procedures are, what they are used for, and where they are appropriate.

You must be very comfortable with XHTML and CSS - design experience is a definite plus.

You need to be able to function independently. If you need directions and supervision to write a "password reset" function for a RDBMs backed PHP site, this job is not for you.

Useful, but not necessarily required, skills include experience with LigHTTPD, PHP opcode caches (Zend Optimizer, APC, eAccelerator/Turk MMCache, etc), memcached, etc. "Just throw more hardware at it" is _not_ an acceptable answer. JavaScript experience is definitely a plus.

This job will involve providing database-backed web services to millions of users - it needs to work, it needs to work well, and it needs to run quickly.

 For serious consideration, good code samples will go a long way. What they do isn't nearly as how well they do it.

* Offer valid as long as we don't have to know about it. Void when webcams, customers, or trade shows are involved, or where prohibited by law.
