Partial Telecommute Web Developer

Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE) is seeking a web developer to collaborate with a small team of dedicated (non – tech) professionals in designing, building, and improving several web based initiatives. NICHE is a national program that works with over 280 hospitals in Canada and the US in implementing exemplary care to adult patients over age 65 (the largest consumer of hospital care). We are in a 5 year expansion phase – increasing our presence to over 500 hospitals and our program depends on a robust web community and platform. We have launched over the past 2 years a new website and a members only website, a webinar e-learning series, a NICHE Wikipedia, and several educational tools and resources. Additionally we have implemented and customized Salesforce and other web based systems and have integrated them with our custom sites/systems. We are now about to launch a 6 week training program via an LMS. We depend on cloud computing for all our front end and back end work. 

As a web developer, you will be leading the way in creating a great user experience as well as exceptional backend capacity. You must have a strong background in Ruby on Rails and other foundational web technologies. This position requires the desire to work independently and without the resources of an IT team. In other words – you are the IT team. We are looking for someone who is both a technical expert as well as business savvy and able to see our vision and translate our goals and strategies to the web. 

This is a part time contract position that may grow into a full time position as our organization grows. 

Core responsibilities 
• Review, evaluate, and make recommendations for the overall web/it systems of the organization – including timeline, and needs assessment – a key area of the success of our organization 
• Ongoing maintenance and development of web sites 
• Ongoing integration (using API) between websites such as regonline, salesforce, webex, and e-commerce store 
• Management of members’ resources and appropriate technical assistance to members 
• Have a good eye for web page layout and design (very basic) 

This position will be a combination of telecommute (for the right candidate) and working on site in our office.
