Home Based Development/Marketing/PR
Special Gifts Theatre (www.specialgiftstheatre.com) is looking for someone, or possibly two individuals, to manage marketing, PR, and/or development for the organization, mostly from their home office(s).
Special Gifts Theatre (SGT) is a growing nonprofit organization, founded in 2000, dedicated to using the theatre arts to help children and teens with special needs develop a variety of skills (communication, problem-solving, social, emotional, you name it!), and build self-confidence. The administrative and management teams of SGT work out of their home offices throughout the Chicagoland area, with an occasional meeting in Northbrook, IL.
The person or people in this/these position(s) will:
Development:
• In collaboration with the Executive Director, set and achieve SGT’s fundraising goals
• Work with the Board through the Development Committee to create and implement long-range and short term fundraising plans
• Develop relationships with area organizations and grow SGT’s network of corporate and individual sponsors
• Organize, plan and implement special events and programs, designed to secure and increase contributions to SGT. In the near future plan a big gala event to be held February 2010 to help celebrate SGT’s 10-year anniversary; develop and distribute all accompanying press releases and communications.
• Work closely with SGT’s grant writer
Marketing:
• Design advertisements, invitations, postcards and other mailing materials promoting development events
• Design and distribute monthly newsletters to SGT partners and potential partners
• Manage content of SGT’s website. Provide guidance and recommendations regarding the use of added functionality as appropriate. Incorporate emerging technology tools and online networking sites to attract a greater audience and more loyal following for SGT
Public Relations:
• Develop and implement a comprehensive proactive media strategy
• Cultivate new and maintain existing relationships with key local and national reporters, editors and producers. Knowledge of North Suburban Chicago media outlets is a plus.
• Develop story ideas and write, edit, and distribute news releases. Work with SGT management and Board to develop story angles, timing, and targeting of releases.
Educational Requirements & Required Work Experience/Skills:
• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
• Proven track record of success in the areas mentioned above – fundraising, marketing, public relations, and communications
• Strong knowledge of development, marketing, and/or public relations techniques, processes and strategies. Knowledge of the latest marketing, PR and development technology and distribution tools.
• Highly resourceful, innovative and creative
• Excellent English language written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
• High quality editing and proofreading skills
• Strong presentation skills and advanced ability to communicate clearly and passionately about the goals and needs of the organization
• Top-notch time management, organization and planning skills and the ability to work effectively from a home office
• Ability to manage multiple projects independently
• High level of technology literacy (e.g. Microsoft Office products, database management, email, internet research, social networking, blogging, Twitter, and so on)
• Strong leadership, persuasion and negotiation skills
• Experience working with a non-profit is a big plus
