Telecommute Japanese / English Speaker & Writer
Polyera Corporation (http://www.polyera.com) is a specialty chemical developer of materials for printed and flexible electronics (imagine a big-screen TV or Solar Cell that you can roll up like a newspaper). A significant number of our customers our in Asia, specifically Japan, and we are looking for some to help us on an as-needed basis, mainly for translating to and from Japanese, both in written and spoken form, and to possibly do some Japanese market research for us. This is a great opportunity to great some exposure to international business and technology, and well as to practice your languages.
There is no need to come into our offices or laboratories, though you must be available most of the time through phone or e-mail (i.e. respond most of the time within 24 hours). The workload can be very light - maybe 10 hours a month - but can scale up if you'd like. Perfect for an undergraduate or graduate student, or as some extra side money.
Requirements:
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Japanese
- Willing to translate documents / e-mails and make the occasional phone call to Japan.
- College educated - Preference for a technical / scientific background or course of study
- Preference for someone who understands Japanese culture and customs
- Must be highly trustworthy and reliable
- Bonus if knowledgeable about the major cities (mainly Tokyo and Osaka)
- Double bonus if knowledgeable about business culture
If you're a student and things go REALLY well, there may be an opportunity for full time employment.

- Compensation: $200/mo retainer (for one-off translation of e-mails, quick research, etc. - you get this even if we give you nothing to do); $12.50/hr for more in-depth research / longer-translations.
