Back-of-Book Indexer

My name is Ken, I have very successful back-of-book index writing business meaning publishers send me the pages for a manuscript and I write the index for the back of the book. I do a variety of subjects including medical, academic/scholarly, trade books, tech books and journals. Expertise in these areas is not required. Strong academic/literary skills as well as strong critical thinking skills are required.

I am looking for one or two people who I can train to take on part-time index writing work. You will be an independent contractor although I will thoroughly train you and monitor your work. I can supply a steady stream of part-time work and you will be compensated more then fairly. This was how I learned to index, part-time for a few years while I had my full-time teaching job. I was mentored in the same fashion I am offering.

Ideally you will live in Sacramento, be able to come over to me in S. Land Park, also having a laptop will make this work. I need you to be able to sit alongside me with your laptop while we go over the steps of writing an index. This process should not initially take more then a few meetings of a few hours. You will be working from home once we get the basics down. Occasional get-togethers and email/phone exchanges will then become the norm.

Students are welcome, freelance writers are more than welcome and anyone else who this opportunity speaks to should feel free to write to me and tell me your academic/writing background and include a resume.

Initially I will pay you 50% of what the publisher pays me and once you are established after a few indexes, you will be paid 2/3s of what I get paid by the publisher.

Many Thanks,
Ken
