Opening up Content for Site
Company is looking for an individual to open up content for a website and do other tasks to boost the rankings in the search engines. This is a work from home position, but you must be in the Fairfield, CT area.
Job responsibilities:
We need the XML feed to be auto-published from the framework (Fusebox) without any manual work from the team. The XML feed will be crawled when the search engines come to the site, so there is no need to submit them to webmaster tools once the first implementation has been made. XML feeds need to be broken up into two: one for fringles.com profile pages and another with all other pages.
As for Content control:
We need the content to issue a teaser if a regular user comes to the website, while a recognized search engine spider like googlebot or Yahoo slurp will get the complete contents of the page (with no caching allowed for SERPs).
The teaser content should consist of determined components that do not include personalized data or any sensitive contact information (TBD).
We need to know how to modify teaser length and variables at any time in the code/administrator.
Opening up content:
For the new homepage, we need to know how to infuse links from within the site (including profiles) from within featured areas on the homepage/category page(s) easily.
This particular point should be tied closely with the content control issue above; since the content type is the same and we will require showing a teaser and clear call to action (the sign-up form).
More of an explanation of items:
Opening Up Content By adding additional page links and text content to the homepage through the featured image area or new below the fold areas should build deeper indexing of Fringles.com. We need to get more pages into the top three search engines but these pages have to be comprised of unique and valuable content. Some concepts include the column you mentioned by Renee or the use of a love match tool (which can be as simple as three questions which fetch a couple of possible results from the profiles on Fringles), links to random or top profiles and the buttons to Facebook and twitter account pages. Cross promoting rewritten or summarized content from Renee on the Blog as well as handpicked and discussed profiles can help drive attention to Fringles via the keyword relationship of the blog and flagship site.
Develop a Quiz on Facebook This can use a template engine to develop and basically needs attention around the questions and results of the quiz, along with branding/design aspects. These tools get attention and get people to talk and link back to the site. The funnier, more qualitative or outrageous these questions/results are, the more likely the reaction will be successful.
Develop Automated XML feeds a sitemap.xml file should be published daily from the website framework without any work on your part with all necessary elements ported to the file. Google, Yahoo! And Bing will collect the XML file when their Robot comes to your website (the time is determined by the freshness of content, your site priority in their scan queue and link popularity/trending). An mRSS file is also programmed similarly and can include the videos published on the site as a means to deep crawling for search engines allowing them to have greater success finding all of the content you want them to.
Video Optimization Videos need to be published to the Fringles.com domain under a category and a page preferably, with a good transcription or summary around the video embedded so search engine robots are able to make sense of the content and discover keyword relationships. Also, video sites will help to get eyeballs on the content. I’d suggest immediate posts to Youtube.com, Dailymotion.com, break.com and Collegehumor.com. There are more, but these would likely get the most eyeballs and are indexed quite frequently.
New Homepage so long as the pages code-to-content ratio is lower than 80% (or the current value) it will provide a boost in search results to fetch more traffic. You’ll also want to likely recode the page using CSS positioning to allow for prime content at the top of the code navigational structure while maintaining the proper experience for users. We will need to monitor links and navigational components carefully so we don’t lose momentum and can enhance effective elements or replace poor results (determined by poor man’s usability).
New Content in the Form of Articles New articles will create assets usable for building links. People tend to link more (and for free) with assets that they’d like to share with their readership or on social sites. We need to build a bunch of these to distribute and hold on the site. We would need two versions one for outside sites with one write-up and another for Fringles.com that is enhanced. Essentially, we need to have two very differently written articles per set so the origin of the content always points back to Fringles.com and not the syndicated site. Googles getting better at attributing link strength and content value to the proper origin site, but why tempt fate this is a best practice.
Site Optimization (second pass) More site optimization will likely take place once new changes are made to enhance interlinking structures, content and keyword strength as well as technology issues that may arise.
