Men's Lifestyle Blogger for Magazine
Company is looking for writers for Men's Lifestyle Magazine. The position would eventually become long term.
Job Skills/Responsibilities:
- Excellent English writing skills (grammar, spelling, sentence structure)
- Able to format an article to the best readability; know when (and when not) to use bullets, sub-headers, etc.
- Be capable of extensively researching a subject, and portraying authority
- Engaging writing style (this might include witty, humorous, personal, ability to connect with readers)
- Be able to produce content that generates buzz, and is worthy of being linked to
- One article per week when necessary
- Respond to comments
- Respond to a monthly Q&A (regarding your expertise) sent in from readers
This is a men’s magazine so, every article you write should be engaging, and entertaining. Men's Health is a perfect example of what this magazine should be like.
Topics you will write on:
1. Health & Fitness
2. Power & Money
3. Sex & Relationships - This magazine's target audience is more toward men starting careers. The articles should be written more sophisticated than for example, FHM. FHM is more for teenage boys whereas Men's Health (the example magazine) is more for men starting careers.
4. Sports – This magazine is looking for broad topics. A complete run down of a baseball game is not what is wanted. A good example might be something about the Brett Favre controversy, or a hyped up UFC fight. The company is targeting the mainstream group of men and not specific sports gurus.
5. Style – Clothes, hygiene, etc.
6. Tech – Concept cars, smart phones, gadgets, toys, video games, the web, etc.; broad topics
7. Controversial Rants – The magazine will have a section that is purely controversial. The position will require you to generate debates among our readers, in an educated, witty, humorous, open-minded way. The company wants “open-minded” because it intends on having political debates. You need to be able to agree with the views from more than one news station. You’re probably not what is needed for in this particular section, if you cannot do this.
Compensation:
There are three pay categories: base pay, bonus pay, and revenue-sharing. Your pay is negotiable, based on your experience, article quality, and the ability to generate buzz and readership.
Base Pay: $3 per 100 words
That will gradually increase, upwards of $10 per 100 words as the magazine grows. The articles will mostly be around 400-600 words, occasionally there will be 200 word news articles, and even 1000 word pillar articles.
Bonus: You will be given bonus pay if you can get your articles on the front page of social media sites. The bonus pay can be up to $100 depending on how successful the article is.
Revenue-Sharing: The company's success is your success so, a part of the monthly revenue will be shared with the writers.
Additional Opportunities: Pay and job opportunities will increase as the company's magazine grows. Eventually the company will search for senior editors, and even community managers.
