Online Course Writer

Local 39 Training Department is a nonprofit organization based in San Francisco that conducts training for members or those interested in becoming members of the Stationary Engineers Union, member organization (IUOE). Stationary Engineers maintain commercial and industrial facilities and therefore must maintain a wide variety of skilled trades knowledge. These skills include, Automation, Carpentry, Controls, Electricity, Electronics, Fire Control Systems, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning, IT network basics, Locksmithing, Machinery Maintenance, Plumbing, Power Generation, Print Reading and CAD draft update, Steam Production and Welding.

Local 39 Training Department is looking for freelance writers to work on course writing for curriculum development projects. The writers will create courses on the Training Departments course autoring system. The courses should incorporate multimedia to enhance the training experience. The writers will work mainly from home with periodic collaborative meetings with program administrators, conducting over the net via web conference. There are various courses available that require completion, time commitment range is estimated between 15 to 30 hours per week. The authoring process has just begun and will ongoing for the foreseeable future. Compensation will be hourly and based on City College of San Francisco scale.


REQUIREMENTS
- Availability and flexibility for the duration of the project.
- Subject matter experience in the related topic areas.
- A minimum of two years of professional writing experience and multimedia creation such as using images, video, audio and flash media.
- Professional understanding of instructional design, curriculum development, and student-centered pedagogy.
- Proficiency with basic functionality of writing applications. The platform and templates on which classes will be written has been completed and only requires the entry of text and media.
- Use of a Windows-based personal computer
