The Internet has transformed the way we Work from Home

      Before the advent of computers and the creation of the Internet, a work at home job usually meant that it was a work out of the home job.  That is to say that the individual either delivered a product or offered a service using their home as a base of operations.

      In the former case, a person would usually have product delivered to their home, warehoused it there and then would leave their house lugging the product (or samples of the merchandise) around with them in an attempt to sell or promote it.  Vacuum salesmen and Amway® product salespersons are typical of this type of work from home job.  These at home jobs were, for the most part, heavily dependant upon an individual’s ability to make a sales pitch that would influence the consumer to purchase the product.  The latter work at home job is usually used by small businesses where the owner offers a service (such as plumber or electrician) and travels to the buyer’s location to provide either an examination or repair.  In neither case, did the person actually start and complete the job while never leaving their house.  This all changed with the advancement of the home computer and the advent of the Internet.  Now an individual need never actually leave their house to find, work on, complete and/or deliver their work.

      As home computers began developed more capabilities, their ability to perform more complex jobs has opened new fields in the work at home job market.  Everything from article writing to structural engineering can be done from home and sent via the internet to an employer.  More and more, the work at home job is changing the landscape of the working environment for both the employers and the employees.

      Employers are finding that they can out source a particular job and realize a significant savings in the typical ancillary employee costs (no built in coffee breaks or lunch periods).  Since a work at home jobber can be located anywhere in the world, employers also are finding that they have a much larger pool of potential employees to draw upon.

      While those that perform work at home jobs enjoy the many benefits of being at home:  the comfortable surrounding of their own house, setting their own work schedule, and having the freedom to wear any form of attire that is comfortable.  There is no need to even comb one’s hair or put on a tie.  If a jobber chooses to work in their bathrobe and slippers, so be it.

      Also with the advent of laptop computers and wi-fi, working at home does not necessary mean remaining in the house.  With the right equipment a work at home employee can perform his or her job from almost anyplace on the globe; from a coffee house to a sandy beach.

      Some economist foresee a future were a major percentage of the work-force will have at least a portion of their job related work completed at home via the internet. So start looking forward to working while in Cancun.
