Deciding on Full or Part Time Work at Home
Working from home is a lifetime dream for a lot of people. Some take the plunge right away, but there are others who fear leaving the security of their jobs to take on something that is not guaranteed. For those who decide to work from home, the next step is to find out whether they want to earn part time income or full time income.
Working at home on a full time basis would mean quitting your day job completely and immersing yourself into building a consultant business for yourself. It may require a lot of planning before making that move. Since working from home can be a very lonely experience, you also have to figure out if you don’t mind working by yourself as a “one-man” shop or if you are the kind of person who needs to interact and have people around you all the time.
Committing to a full time opportunity at home has its advantages and disadvantages. It would probably constitute putting in more time especially in the beginning stage of things. Full time for you may mean late nights, forgetting to eat on time and trying to keep organized at the same time you are maintaining your family life.
The idea of having a flexible schedule and not having to report to someone about where you are going or what you are doing is the best thing about working from home on a full time basis. However, you have to be careful because it does require lots of discipline on your part to be successful.
Part time income from home can work for some who don’t mind working at their present job, but just want a little extra money to take care of additional expenses. In this case, it might also require late hours because of the full time daytime hours you have to keep. It might also interfere with your family life since you have so many things requiring your time. There may be some things that you can do on the weekends to earn part time income instead of using your time during the week. The decision is yours to make. You don’t want to overextend yourself.
So the question is: “What is your current family situation, job situation or personal situation to allow you to work from home whether part time or full time?” Only you can answer that question, but be sure to answer it honestly because you do want to make the right choice for yourself and your family.
