Balance Your Work and Family Life
OK, so you want to work from home? What are your reasons? Is it because you hate that boss or are you just tired of your boring job? Whatever the reason, working from home can create more problems for you if you are not careful.
Working from home requires more of your time. You don’t believe that, do you? Yes, it really does. Picture yourself. You get up in the morning and get breakfast ready for yourself and your family. You drive the kids to school or to the daycare. You run morning errands to the post office, grocery store or to the cleaners. You head back home and now have a chance to eat your breakfast. After you are finished, you may take a shower and sit down to catch your breath from all the activities that happened in the early morning hours.
Now you are ready to begin work and guess what? It is already 10:00 AM. How are you going to finish all those things on your “to do” list before the kids come home at 2:00 P.M. you ask yourself? You have to pick up the baby at the day care also and you have to fix dinner.
Does this sound like more than you can chew off? The key is to create a balance. Ask for help from a partner, spouse or a friend. Maybe your partner or spouse or friend wouldn’t mind dropping the kids off or picking them up.
Plan your day the night before. Write everything down. Make a “things to do” list. Write the most important ones as priorities and if you can take care of those each day, you would have accomplished a balanced day. Whatever is not done for that day may not be as important or can be done another day. Don’t pressure yourself or expand yourself by taking on too many assignments.
Leave time to go for a walk. It will help to clear your mind and give you a better perspective on how to accomplish your goals. Set realistic goals that you know that you can handle. Delegate work by outsourcing different task.
Go to the movies with your family. Set a day each week to do things with your family. Devote that day only to them. Don’t worry. The work will get done. Good luck in putting balance in your work and family life.
