Medical Billing
There are many advertisement in newspapers, on TV and on the Internet that boast about how much money you can make with becoming a medical billing clerk. You may find that when you respond to these advertising, you will get some kind of sales proposition to get you to spend your hard-earned money to buy a package that will instruct you how to get started.
You will be told that the health industry needs your help to process the tremendous task of handling paper claims. Your job is to provide electronic claims to doctors in your local area. The medical billing market is suffering by not having people like you to process these electronic claims.
The person on the other end of the line will inform you that doctors are trying to find companies to outsource their medical billing because the paper work is piling up and these doctors want to get paid by Medicaid or any other health insurance company and need your help.
You will be assured that no experience is necessary and that you can find a lot of insurance companies and doctor’s office that are waiting to receive your call. Some of them will even go as far as deceive you that they will actually find clients for you.
In actuality is that you will have to sell your service. This is going to be a business The reality: you will have to sell. These promoters rarely provide experienced sales staff or contacts within the medical community.
You will receive materials in the mail after you have paid for the package, which will include brochures, letters of testimonial, software, sample disk and a list of possible reference. Your investment is usually in the thousands of dollars because the sales person will also try to sell you additional training and technical support.
Be sure you find out the person’s name on the other end of the line. Ask for phone numbers of people who have been successful to give you a live testimonial. Do your research properly before you spend your money on any medical billing company.
The truth is that few people who purchase these programs end up making any money because they are left on their own to find their own clients and to start their own business to generate an income. There is no way that you can recover your large investment. You either have to make it work for you or settle for losing your money altogether.
The best thing to do is to get a job with an already established medical billing company and get some experience from them first before branching out on your own.
