Get Motivated!
What motivates you? A motive is simply something such as a need or desire, a force, stimulus, or influence that causes a person to act a certain way. You may have any number of motives for seeking a WAH job or other virtual telecommuting opportunity. Perhaps you are a parent who desires to spend more time with your kids. In these days, an obvious motive may very well be to cut the costs associated with commuting to a job, along with related expenses like work clothes or coffee and lunches. You may simply be tired of the job itself, if the daily tasks have become too routine, lacking excitement or challenge. Another motive may be the desire to be your own boss, instead of answering to someone else. You may have as yet untapped skills and interests that have been laying dormant, waiting for the opportunity to be developed. Do you recognize yourself in any of these potential motives? Perhaps there is something else that propels you forward in choosing your WAH path.
The secret is to discover that motivation and then utilize it towards obtaining the best possible WAH job for you and your circumstances. Perhaps the number one reason for seeking a WAH or virtual telecommuting arrangement, is choosing WHEN you want to work. Flexible hours and structuring work around your day – rather than your life around work – is often touted as one of the major benefits of working at home.
Depending on what your motivation is for seeking a virtual position, different types of work may be more appropriate than others. For instance, if you are a parent with babies or young children, you may NOT be able to perform a customer service job requiring phone work, since you can not guarantee a quiet environment. If you have always executed either hard manual labor or mentally draining tasks, you may really want to seek a job that allows you to exercise your creativity, such as writing or some kind of graphics, web design, or other artwork. Whatever you determine is your motivator, go with the flow!
