The Work At home writer

Among the plethora of work at home jobs one can do, freelance writing is one of the most popular, and can be very lucrative. Freelance writers can be involved in book writing, e-book writing, copywriting, keyword and SEO writing, creative writing, ghost writing, and the list goes on and on. Writers may also find themselves doing freelance editing and proofreading jobs. The great thing about this is that there is such a variety of writing and related positions to be filled, a person could freelance and never, ever get bored!

The skills needed for making a go of writing from home are somewhat dependent on what type of job you're looking for exactly. Some will require that you possess an English or Journalism degree. Some simply want someone who is creative and has a good grasp of the English language. Vocabulary, grammar, spelling are of course, extremely important. It's good to have a working knowledge of different types of writing, even if you won't be doing them. It will help when you are applying for or bidding on writing jobs. It will also help when you are discussing projects with potential employers, and having an idea of all the avenues that are available with some training and/or practice will help you land more writing jobs.

Briefly, you should understand what content, creative, SEO or SEM, and keyword articles are. Know what an e-book is and understand what ghost writing and re-writing entails. You might also want to explore technical writing, descriptive writing, PR and business plan writing as areas of potential income. And what about blogging? Increasingly, blog writers are being hired to do just that - blog. What else is needed? Well, dependability and accountability, a good office set up and a schedule that allows you to complete high quality work. This will ensure that you earn a reputation as a desirable writer.

Whether freelancing appeals to you, or writing steadily for just one or two employers is what you are interested in, the opportunities are many and the need is great for good, skilled, creative writers. Being a work from home writer can put you in an ideal situation. Working from the peace, quiet and comfort from your home office, creating works worthy of being read again and again, or articles that really attract the attention of a target audience is a very rewarding endeavor.
