virtual legal Assistant

Starting your own home based business as a virtual legal Assistant is a big undertaking, but if you put thought and effort into your career choice at the outset, your chances of positive results are much greater. Virtual Legal Assistants are very much in demand, and jobs can range from part time temporary to full time, permanent positions. You have a fair amount of control over just how much you do. Making the decision to work from home in any profession is a big one because the perspective from which you are viewing your job changes. While working from home as a virtual assistant is extremely attractive, be sure to consider all the aspects of this decision.

As a Virtual Legal Assistant, you will be expected to perform most of the same duties that an assistant in a law office would perform. Investigating facts of cases and making certain that all relevant information is available and helping attorneys prepare for closings, hearings and the like are still duties that the Virtual Paralegal will do. Research and organization are also part of the business. Depending on the nature of the lawyer's practice, you could be working with attorneys who deal with criminal or civil matters, tax law or other areas. So, the scope of work is still the same. Many Virtual Legal Assistants do visit the office on a regular basis for meetings and to pick up or drop off paperwork. Law offices will require you to have the same education and experience that would be required of a Paralegal working in the office, so be sure your credentials are up to date.

The advantage to virtual assisting is that much of the work can be done at any time day or night, and this is not the case if you work in an office. Things to consider are: is your home environment conducive to finishing work, are you a self-starter, and are you organized and able to stay on task. Will you have the uninterrupted time needed to complete what your job requires of you on a daily basis? If you intend to work from home, these things are completely necessary.

Working as a Legal Assistant from home will provide you with opportunities for spending more time with family, and offer flexibility of schedule that is virtually impossible while working in an office setting. If your home environment is favorable and you are focused and organized, this situation may be ideal for you.
