That&#8217;s because different activities engage different parts of our brains and relaxing in between spells of work helps you refresh the parts of your brain you need to function well at your job.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers can encourage employees to stick to normal work hours and avoid the temptation to check their email and messages after-hours. As Nelson Sherwin, manager of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peocompanies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PEO Companies<\/a> remarks:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>\u201cI am insistent on a healthy work-life balance at our company, and I discourage working overtime, working during weekends, working during weird hours, etc. It\u2019s such a slippery slope with remote work, because employees tend to work more\u2014not less\u2014like employers think. I\u2019ve seen it first-hand and the burnout it can produce.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Employers can also suggest employees schedule relaxation on their calendar to make it a part of their normal daily routine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:19px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-allow-remote-employees-to-set-their-own-schedule\"><strong>Allow Remote Employees to Set Their Own Schedule<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Improved mental health and employee productivity are also associated with the ability to work a flexible schedule. We all know that in order to be truly productive, we have to be in a good mindset. If you&#8217;re never letting yourself relax or have some time off, the quality of your work will likely suffer!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Research on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/kevinkruse\/2017\/02\/06\/want-to-get-more-done-try-taking-more-breaks\/#5d0c1ec36db4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">productivity and taking breaks<\/a> suggests that we operate most productively using \u201cpulse and pause\u201d cycles. This essentially means that we are most productive when we work and then take a break. The time worked and the length of the break varies depending on the study or technique. For example, the popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pomodorotechnique.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pomodoro technique<\/a> advises 25 minutes of work and a five-minute break with a longer break after four cycles.
