At Virtual Vocations, we&#8217;re always curious to learn more about U.S. locations where telecommute jobs are the most readily available and share that information with telecommute job seekers.<\/p>\n<p>For 2016, we set out to not only discover\u00a0the best states for telecommuting, but also target states were job seekers will have the best chance at finding a greater variety of available telecommute jobs. Therefore, we developed a location ranking system to determine which U.S. states are truly the most telecommute-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>Our scoring guide formula was created using data aggregated from the <span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><a style=\"color: #ff6600;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.virtualvocations.com\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Virtual Vocations Telecommute Jobs Database<\/a><\/span> as well as the United States Department of Labor\u2019s Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/news.release\/laus.t03.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">number of people encompassing the civilian labor force<\/a> in each location as of November 2016.<\/p>\n<p>We divided the civilian labor force total for each location by the number of telecommute job postings Virtual Vocations screened and approved from each location and published to our Telecommute Jobs Database during 2016. The result reveals the number of telecommute jobs per member of the civilian labor force\u00a0from each location available throughout 2016; therefore, the lower the quotient, the more telecommute-friendly the location\u00a0and the higher the ranking.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Interestingly, our\u00a0survey revealed that the top locations\u00a0for professionals currently working in telecommuting jobs and those who hope to telecommute are the same:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>California<\/li>\n<li>Florida<\/li>\n<li>Texas<\/li>\n<li>New York<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Among respondents who are active telecommuters,\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>56.4% have at least five years of telecommuting experience<\/li>\n<li>39.5% earn a minimum of $71,000 per year in their remote job<\/li>\n<li>62.2% telecommute 100% of the time<\/li>\n<li>50.4% work as independent contractors<\/li>\n<li>74.3% have experienced an increased quality of life since they started telecommuting<\/li>\n<li>83.5% have experienced decreased costs (e.g. lunches, clothing, gas, etc.) associated with work since telecommuting<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Among respondents who hope to telecommute,<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>53.7% have prior telecommuting experience<\/li>\n<li>62.8% have been searching for a telecommute job for less than six months<\/li>\n<li>74.7% are motivated to telecommute because they want\u00a0flexibility and control over their work schedules<\/li>\n<li>47.6% want a 100% virtual job<\/li>\n<li>74% have applied to no more than three telecommute\u00a0jobs within the last month<\/li>\n<li>33.2% would accept up to a 5% decrease in pay in order to telecommute<\/li>\n<li>44.7% want to telecommute only as an employee, with 42.8% willing to work in any type of telecommuting arrangement<\/li>\n<li>36.6% say the most frustrating element to looking for telecommuting jobs is the lack of employer response to applications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Want to Telecommute?
