Senior Staff Software Engineer

Job Summary

To define and lead the technical strategy for Coinbase's Data Platform, the full-time Senior Staff Software Engineer will architect scalable data systems, mentor engineering talent, and drive multi-quarter roadmaps, all while working remotely with occasional in-person sessions.

Key responsibilities

• Own the technical strategy and architecture for Data Platform, focusing on data ingestion, transformation, warehousing, and streaming systems
• Develop and execute a multi-quarter roadmap aimed at transitioning the team toward engineering-led cost reduction
• Redesign data infrastructure to support AI and ML workloads, ensuring data pipelines and compute systems are optimized for modern applications

Required qualifications

• Deep experience in building and operating large-scale distributed data infrastructure and streaming platforms
• Strong systems thinking with a comprehensive understanding of the full data lifecycle
• Proven experience in transitioning teams from managed-service dependencies to engineering-built infrastructure
• Experience designing data systems that support ML training pipelines and real-time inference at scale
• Demonstrated ability to own the technical strategy and architecture across multiple teams
