Job Summary

Wordzen is looking for a talented, experienced editor to join our team for a part-time contract position with regular hours. The shifts we're looking to fill are Tuesday and Wednesday, from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM EST.


We edit business emails for clients all over the globe. Some send us their email drafts in typed form, others send them as voice recordings. Our editors read or transcribe the drafts and then perfect them, using perfect grammar and punctuation.

But that's just the start. Our editors have life experience, including familiarity with different kinds of businesses, so they're able to interpret what our clients are trying to say, and help them make those points. Our clients run the gamut - they are executives, salespeople, small business owners, managers, entrepreneurs, builders, insurance agents, real estate agents, talent agents, nonprofit mangers, website designers, recruiters, software engineers, and more.

We don't expect you to know all of those fields, but we do need people who understand enough about business communication to polish what they write. To be successful, you'll need to perform quick internet searches to verify terms, get the correct version of proper nouns, and fact-check anything that looks inaccurate. Also, as email is a relatively short form of writing, we need editors who know how to be concise.

Great Wordzen editors are seasoned wordsmiths who know how to compose emotionally intelligent messages that appropriate for the relationship between the user and the recipient of the email (colleague-colleague, business-client, client-business, etc.) quickly and efficiently.

We are seeking someone with college-level education, although your degree is much less important than your skill. You'll be given some proficiency tests as part of the application process to help us assess your skills as a contract editor. Familiarity with AP style is helpful. Importantly, English must be your native language, with a strong preference for American English.

As a remote worker, you will need to have a quality, updated computer with a reliable, high-speed internet connection. You will need to work from a quiet place, as you'll need to focus on the work, listen to brief audio recordings, and turn edited messages around quickly.

Professional Requirements


Excellent written communication skills
Excellent command of grammar and punctuation
A keen ear to hear words spoken in voice recordings
Typing speed of 70 wpm or greater
Able to make simple internet searches rapidly
Able to maintain a productive pace and perform daily job without supervision
Courteous and helpful customer service orientation
A PayPal account
Must be over 18 years of age
Ability to pass a criminal background check
Reliable and on time for each assigned shift
Experience working with ESL preferred but not required

Technical Requirements


Laptop or desktop (minimum 2.0GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 5GB available disk space)
Headset or speakers for audio transcription
Smartphone
Chrome browser
High-speed internet connection with a minimum 10 mbps download and 5 mbps upload speed. (You can test your connection at speedtest.net.)
Ability to connect to a Gmail account, once assigned to you

Wordzen is a virtual company, so you can be located anywhere in the world, as long as you are a native English speaker and have appropriate internet service. Ex-pats, military family members, and other Americans who move frequently are welcome, as are those who have a permanent home in the US.
