I have noticed many work at home positions ask for a resume and a cover letter. What do I put in a cover letter? Is there a specific way to write one that will say I am better than all the rest that have applied?

Hi Debbie!

I have been gone all day to a family reunion, so I'm just getting on my 'puter to check emails and all my forums! ;)

What I usually do in cover letters is introduce myself and let the potential employer know where I saw their job listing. I then say I am interested in [this job] and would like to receive more details.

Then I let them know that I believe I would be a good candidate for their posted job because .... and I list my related education, job experience, life experience, etc. I try to select key words and phrases from the employer's job posting and use those in the same sequence as I write my cover letter.

I usually end with something like "Thank you for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience." Then end with "Sincerely" or "Respectfully" [your name].

I actually write a mini version of this in the message section of each job I apply for from here, too!

Maybe I can find one to copy and paste here to show you what I mean!

Hope this helps you! :)

My advice is similar to Karen120. I sometimes include an example of an experience that relates directly to the posted job. For example, a person applying for a transcription job may list a particular company they transcribed for and the process they goes through to achieve success. Good Luck :o)

A cover letter is simply the best way to introduce yourself to a prospective employer and highlight the many ways you will be valuable to his or her company based on your personality and past experience. Play up your assets- after all if you don't no one else is going to do it for you.

I've written for several clients and always ask if I can use them as a reference. When I apply to someone new, I mention I can provide references from other clients. I need to set up a web page with my stories and testimonials.

Kathy, I own Resumes With Results, a part of Write Side Up Copywriting & Publicity since 1994. I can help you by writing an excellent cover letter for you, and a review of your resume at the same time. These cover letters are crucial, and many employers will not look at a resume without them. This is your chance to address your job objective and reveal things about yourself that your resume does not. Yes, there is a specific way to write one. Give me a call at 530-277-4560 or e-mail me at Connieis@pacbell.net. My website is http://www.conniewreichert.com. I can take care of this for you ASAP.
