Job Summary
Supporting NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service, the part-time Acoustician Level 2 will analyze passive acoustic monitoring datasets, develop automated detection methods, and conduct quantitative analyses of cetacean behavior and habitat relationships, with remote work options and anticipated travel for field activities.
Key responsibilities
- Analyze passive acoustic monitoring datasets from various acoustic platforms
- Develop, test, and validate automated cetacean detection and classification approaches
- Conduct statistical analyses to assess cetacean occurrence, abundance, and habitat use
Required qualifications
- Master's degree in marine biology, oceanography, acoustics, fisheries science, statistics, computer science, or related field
- At least two years of relevant experience in acoustic data analysis
- Working knowledge of underwater acoustic theory and signal processing techniques
- Experience with MATLAB and R programming languages
- Proficiency in processing acoustic data and extracting soundscape measurements
