Application Engineer

Job Summary

To support ongoing development of an internal Retool platform, the contracted Application Engineer will manage application architecture, permissions, and integrations while working remotely for 30-40 hours per week from September 2026 to February 2027.

Key responsibilities

• Own the application layer across internal and client-facing tooling, ensuring architecture and permissions are properly structured
• Build and extend Retool applications, focusing on queries, components, and backend logic
• Continuously assess and improve application architecture for efficiency and scalability, partnering with data teams for alignment with data models

Required qualifications

• 4+ years of experience building or maintaining internal business applications or integrated tooling environments
• Substantial hands-on experience with Retool, including building and shipping non-trivial applications
• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and comfort with relational databases
• Experience with permissions architecture across multi-system environments and integrating third-party platforms via APIs
• Demonstrated ability to inherit and extend existing codebases effectively
