Associate Director of Data Science

Job Summary

Leading multidisciplinary teams in a remote setting, the full-time Associate Director of Data Science will set technical direction for data platforms and AI/ML systems, guide the design of production data platforms, and build sustainable modeling and simulation practices to enhance biomedical research capabilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Set the technical direction for data platforms, AI/ML systems, and scientific computing environments while establishing reusable implementation patterns
• Guide the design and operation of data systems that manage large scientific datasets, ensuring data quality and trustworthiness
• Build and lead teams focused on modeling, simulation, and scientific computing, while promoting technical publication and community engagement

Required Qualifications

• Eight or more years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, machine learning engineering, or a related technical field
• Five or more years of leadership experience in building and guiding multidisciplinary technical teams
• Demonstrated experience in designing, building, deploying, and operating production-grade data and AI/ML systems
• Strong technical judgment across modern data architectures, distributed processing, and production operations
• Experience moving analytical or AI/ML work from research to reliable production use, including evaluation and ongoing operational ownership
