Associate Editor

Job Summary

To steer the platform's editorial operations, the full-time remote Associate Editor will manage editorial quality and output, assign and edit articles, and contribute to the growth of Planetizen's audience and engagement.

Key responsibilities

• Assigning, editing, and publishing 2-5 feature and editorial pieces weekly while collaborating with external contributors
• Sourcing, summarizing, and publishing approximately 30 pieces of essential urban planning news for the newsfeed each week
• Utilizing analytics to monitor and optimize editorial content performance and managing quality assurance tasks for various Planetizen products

Required qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in a newsroom or editorial environment with experience managing external contributors
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining accuracy and editorial quality
• Strong judgment, critical thinking, and editorial instinct
• Experience with Google Workspace, Google Analytics, and content management systems like Drupal
• Interest in urban planning with a willingness to become an expert in the field
