Backend Engineer

Job Summary

A company is looking for a Backend Engineer to design and build scalable systems for their platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement a computation engine that auto-updates interdependent fields based on tax code changes
• Create systems that convert IRS documentation into testable, type-safe code
• Develop and maintain APIs for frontend applications and third-party integrators

Required Qualifications

• Proven experience in designing and maintaining complex backend systems, preferably with Python and FastAPI
• Proficiency with databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and data modeling
• Ability to integrate AI tools into workflows
• Strong product sense and understanding of product/engineering tradeoffs
• Comfort with ambiguity and ability to work autonomously
