Backend Engineer

Job Summary

Building and operating email transport infrastructure, the full-time Backend Engineer will focus on SMTP delivery, MTA systems, and delivery controls in a fully remote role within the Americas or European time zones.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain core components for sending transactional and marketing emails
• Design systems for throttling at various levels and improve classification of delivery outcomes
• Participate in incident response and collaborate with Trust & Safety to protect sending networks

Required qualifications

• Strong backend engineering experience with high-volume delivery systems
• Familiarity with SMTP, MTAs, DNS, and email best practices
• Understanding of distributed systems, queues, retries, and rate limits
• Experience or interest in Typescript and Golang
• Commitment to reliability and operational excellence
