Backend Software Engineer

Job Summary

Seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer, the full-time role offers the opportunity to design and evolve Ruby frameworks for REST APIs and improve backend system performance, with the flexibility to work remotely from anywhere in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Design and enhance shared Ruby frameworks for REST APIs, asynchronous jobs, and workflow orchestration
• Improve the availability, reliability, scalability, and performance of backend systems supporting critical product functionality
• Modernize a large Ruby codebase through safe architectural changes and establish pragmatic engineering practices

Required qualifications

• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 3+ years with production systems in Ruby
• Experience building and maintaining large Ruby applications and shared backend codebases
• Ability to design reliable distributed systems at production scale, including APIs and background processing
• Experience improving complex systems through architecture, modularization, and performance enhancements
• Proven ability to create scalable abstractions and mentor engineers across teams
