Billing Specialist I

Job Summary

Responsible for the timely submission of medical claims to insurance companies, the full-time Billing Specialist I will utilize various systems to verify patient and billing information, perform compliant billing functions, and communicate issues to management while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Utilize hospital/physician systems to verify patient, billing, and claim information for accuracy
• Perform primary, secondary, and rebill billing functions, including electronic and paper submissions to payers
• Monitor claims for missing information and secure necessary medical documentation required by insurance carriers

Required qualifications

• 1-2 years of medical collections/billing experience
• Basic knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and NCCI
• Familiarity with third-party billing guidelines and claim forms (UB04/1500)
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Basic understanding of health information systems (e.g., EMR, Claim Scrubbers)
