Bioinformatics Engineer
Job Summary
Driving technical solutions in a remote full-time capacity, the Bioinformatics Engineer will design and develop custom software, mentor junior engineers, and collaborate with stakeholders to clarify workflows and requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end technical solutions from ideation to release, including estimating time and complexity
- Act as a role model for the team by setting standards for excellence and providing feedback on code reviews
- Monitor processes and troubleshoot issues while highlighting blockers during development
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with at least 5 years of experience, Master's degree with at least 2 years of experience, or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related field
- Proficiency in Python coding
- Intermediate-to-advanced experience in Linux environments and relational databases (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server)
- Knowledge of next-generation sequencing technologies and standard bioinformatics data formats (e.g., FASTQ, BAM, VCF, GTF)
- Proficiency with software engineering best practices, including git version control and unit testing
