Job Summary
Working remotely on a full-time basis, a California Certified Coder will review acute hospital outpatient emergency department, medical oncology, and adult outpatient rehab patient records to ensure accurate diagnosis and procedure coding in compliance with established guidelines.
Key responsibilities:
- Abstracts and assigns diagnosis and procedure codes from various patient records for billing and reimbursement
- Posts, corrects, and validates charges while ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and regulations
- Audits medical records and collaborates with departmental leadership to provide feedback and education on documentation practices
Required qualifications:
- High School Education/GED or equivalent required; Associate's/Technical Degree preferred
- AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification is required
- Three years of coding experience in outpatient emergency department, medical oncology, and adult outpatient rehab preferred
- Experience in an acute care setting preferred
- Maintain appropriate coding credentials related to essential job assignment
