California Licensed Associate General Counsel

Job Summary

Seeking a California Licensed Associate General Counsel, the remote position will manage commercial agreements, advise on compliance and regulatory matters, and support various legal issues within a growing fintech company.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate a range of commercial agreements, including customer and partnership contracts
• Advise on compliance with card network rules, surcharging laws, and federal regulations relevant to the company's operations
• Develop and maintain internal compliance policies while supporting employment, privacy, and data security matters

Required qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (New York or California preferred)
• Minimum 5 years of legal experience, preferably in fintech or financial services regulation
• Strong commercial contracting skills with direct negotiating experience
• Ability to operate as a generalist and handle a variety of legal issues in a start-up environment
• Experience leveraging AI tools to enhance work product and expedite deliverables
