California Licensed Associate General Counsel

Job Summary

To advance nonprofit compliance initiatives, the full-time California Licensed Associate General Counsel will oversee legal compliance programs, manage a compliance team, and provide expert guidance on 501(c)(3) regulations while working remotely.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee organizational compliance with laws and regulations applicable to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations
• Lead the internal assessment program and manage corporate compliance and reporting obligations
• Develop and maintain legal policies and training resources to enhance compliance literacy across the organization

Required qualifications

• Juris Doctor and active California law license or registered in-house counsel required
• Minimum of 8 years of experience advising nonprofit tax-exempt organizations, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role
• Deep expertise in laws governing 501(c)(3) organizations, including lobbying and campaign finance rules
• Experience designing and overseeing compliance programs for nonprofit organizations
• Proficiency in Salesforce and MS Office suite is a plus
