California Licensed General Counsel

Job Summary

A company is looking for a General Legal Counsel who has an active license to practice law in California.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as the legal advisor to the CEO, Senior Leadership Team, and Board of Directors on legal, regulatory, and governance matters
• Provide proactive legal counsel across various organizational functions and ensure compliance with applicable laws
• Draft, review, negotiate, and oversee a range of legal agreements and manage relationships with outside counsel

QUALIFICATIONS

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in California
• 7-10+ years of progressively responsible legal experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
• Demonstrated expertise in nonprofit governance, contract negotiation, and regulatory compliance
• Proven ability to advise senior leadership by translating legal risks into practical options
• Strong business judgment and ability to operate independently as the primary legal authority
