California Licensed Health Information Coder

Job Summary

To support a growing healthcare team, the temporary, fully remote Health Information Coder III will utilize advanced coding skills in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems to ensure accurate coding and abstracting of inpatient cases in compliance with established guidelines.

Key responsibilities

• Code and abstract inpatient cases according to UCSF Health policies and procedures
• Ensure compliance with coding guidelines and maintain a minimum accuracy rate of 95% while meeting daily production requirements
• Utilize advanced knowledge of medical terminology and coding systems to translate clinical documentation into standardized codes

Required qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
• CCS, CIC, RHIT, or RHIA certification
• Three or more years of experience in inpatient DRG coding and abstracting
• Advanced proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) and encoder systems
• Ability to pass an initial knowledge assessment with a score of 80% or higher or have six months of recent inpatient DRG coding experience with UCSF
