Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Coder will work remotely, focusing on outpatient services including Hospital Ambulatory Surgery, Home Health/Hospice, and Observation procedures while adhering to coding guidelines and regulations.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Organize and prioritize work assignments to ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements
- Verify and abstract data from medical records, ensuring accuracy and integrity before submission
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or similar credential
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
