Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses, conditions, and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with relevant coding guidelines and standards while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:
  • Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
  • Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
  • Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
  • Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
  • High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
  • Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, Certified Coding Specialist, or equivalent
  • Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
  • Knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies related to outpatient services
