Job Summary
Working remotely on a full-time basis, the California Licensed Hospital Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and maintaining data integrity.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding in accordance with regulatory requirements and established productivity standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Active certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
