California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder

Job Summary

To support hospital coding operations, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.

Key responsibilities:

• Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
• Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
• Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed

Required qualifications:

• Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
• High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and coding conventions from an accredited program
• Active certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
• Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
• Knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies relevant to outpatient services
