Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will work remotely, focusing on coding diagnoses and procedures for outpatient services while adhering to regulatory guidelines.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify documentation and verify the accuracy of coded data prior to submission
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical terminology and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar credential
- Knowledge of current ICD-CM and CPT coding conventions and guidelines
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
