Job Summary
To ensure accurate coding and abstracting of medical records, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will work remotely, focusing on coding diagnoses and procedures for outpatient services while adhering to coding guidelines and regulations.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical terminology and coding courses from an accredited program
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to meet productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
