Job Summary
To support accurate medical coding, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of relevant medical terminology and coding classes from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent coding credential
- Basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, and disease processes relevant to outpatient coding
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
