Job Summary
Working remotely in a full-time capacity, the California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will accurately code and abstract diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with coding guidelines and standards.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records according to regulatory requirements and organizational guidelines
- Interact with physicians to clarify and document patient information accurately
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding courses from an accredited program
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or equivalent
- Basic knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
