Job Summary
To support accurate medical record documentation, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will code and abstract diagnoses and procedures for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines while working remotely from Northern California.
Key responsibilities:
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS classification systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding and abstracting of records in accordance with established productivity and quality standards
- Interact with physicians to clarify patient diagnostic and procedural information as needed
Required qualifications:
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar coding credential
- Basic knowledge of reimbursement methodologies and coding guidelines
- Ability to meet established productivity and quality standards for coding and abstracting
