Job Summary
To support accurate coding practices, the full-time California Licensed Hospital Outpatient Coder will be responsible for coding and abstracting diagnoses and procedures from medical records for outpatient services, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while working remotely.
Key responsibilities
- Review medical records to identify and code diagnoses and procedures using ICD-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Ensure timely and compliant coding by organizing and prioritizing work assignments according to regulatory requirements
- Interact with physicians to clarify documentation and verify the accuracy of coded data prior to submission
Required qualifications
- Two years of continuous hospital coding/abstracting experience within the last five years
- High School Diploma or GED with completion of classes in medical terminology, anatomy, and current coding conventions from an accredited program
- Current certification as a Registered Health Information Technician, Certified Professional Coder, or similar credential
- Basic knowledge of coding guidelines and reimbursement methodologies
- Ability to achieve a minimum score of 75% on the Hospital Outpatient Coder test
